Q: What experience level should I have? I’ve never done yoga/rappelling/tree climbing, etc.
A: You can be an absolute beginner. We have a challenge by choice motto and you don’t have to have any experience to come. We do ask that you feel comfortable walking on uneven terrain and that you feel fit enough to hike 5km to our facilities. Once you are there, you can opt in for every single activity we offer… or just chill out, read a book and have some you time. Whatever you want from this trip, we are here to support you!
Q: What does the menu look like?
A: Healthy, colorful and delicious!! Our cooks are absolutely incredible and make delightful meals for you everyday, using traditional tico ingredients like different types of beans and plenty of tropical fruits and veggies. Our menu is mostly vegetarian and we have vegan and gluten free options as well.
Q: What age is appropriate to go to Chakra? Is it ok for children?
A: Yes! Chakra is great for ages 5 and up. Though not childproof, definitely child friendly. We share this space with our kids as well as our parents (yes, that means one of our mothers has rappelled down the waterfall)!
We create a loving, inclusive environment no matter your age. What’s more important for your safety and comfort is your physical condition. Most of the retreats we host, although a challenge by choice motto, are very active and you will be immersed in the natural elements. Take a look at our calendar to see what’s coming or organize your own retreat!
Q: I’ve seen comments about people’s lives changing after Chakra… is that really possible in only a few days?
A: YES! If you are totally open to this experience, amazing things can happen. We have seen people overcome tremendous obstacles, beat their biggest fears, break down, release, grow and change. Anything is possible; Chakra can be that pivotal moment to guide you in the direction you’ve always wanted to go. And even if you weren’t expecting change or healing to occur, it can still happen when you least expect it!
Q: Are there insects?
A: Yes. It’s the tropics! But are there any to worry about? Not really. We have the usual spiders, critter crawlers, mosquitos and other flying bugs but it is all part of the experience and we definitely aren’t inundated with them! Just bring your bug spray (we recommend anything organic, non-DEET based). At night you will have your bug net for protection.
Q: What is the temperature like?
Temperature varies, a lot. Sunny days are very warm and temperature drops as the sun goes down. You can expect anything from upper 50s to lower 80s F (12- 28C).
Bring your layers! It does get chilly in the tropics, especially during windy nights!
Q: Can I drink water from the tab? Should I bring my own refillable bottle?
Yes! And yes, please do so! Our water comes from the mountain and is filtered twice before consumption. Costa Rica is one of the few countries in Latin America where is totally safe to drink from the tab.
